Note: it's just kinda odd for me writing about myself in the third person, so…

In General

I am an amateur blogger living in the State of Michigan, United States. I was born in 1972 and am also a vegan, atheist, amateur musician, secularist, artist and a liberal.

Larro is a nickname that I owe to a crazy ass Mexican that I had once worked with (damn, that was well over ten years ago). The moniker “Larro” has since carried over into my personal life and many of my friends and family use it affectionately. My real given name is Larry but feel free to address me as Larro.

I am happily married to the love of my life since 2003, having been in a relationship since 1997. We have no children (if it happens that children enter into the mix so be it). Our children would be a happy addition to the atheist community (I would hope; but if not that's fine with me).

I am also an animal lover and have two dogs and two cats that I count as our children and hence part of the family.

Atheism

On my religious life, or rather irreligious life, I can safely say (and with a big “whew!”) that I was never brought up within the fold of any church or religious institution. I've never been baptized nor have I ever accepted anyone (living, dead or mythical) as my personal/spiritual savior at any time in my life. Born once is plenty enough for me and besides being born twice has never been physically observed.

I am a strong atheist, meaning that I am well beyond being agnostic, but this is not to say that I have always been an atheist, strong or otherwise. As a child my family existed on and below the poverty line at various times and for the life of me, as many impoverished people attest: they get through the “roughest of times” with the help of religion and faith. I just don't have an answer to why church was not a part of our family life other than that it was just a non-issue.

Throughout various times in my life, before coming to the affirmation of atheism, I'd toyed with believing in the notion of many supernatural and superstitious aspects of our existence…to no avail (in retrospect). Witchcraft, Qabala and mostly New Age mysticism were at the forefront of my “seeking” to understand what was beyond death and beyond our physical bodies. These dabbling's were just that: dabbling's; in that I don't think I was really looking for the “answers”, or rather (more accurately) that the “answers” were never revealed to me in a way to be convincing.

This was a relatively short-lived phase and I then kind of discarded this nonsense to go on and live my life in normalcy.

Veganism

Ironically enough I get the question about my being vegan as relating to a religious affirmation. This is largely to do with questioning whether I am Seventh Day Adventist.

But, no. I'm not vegan because of religion (for the obvious reason). I am vegan for ethical and environmental reasons. I can't stand to know that what I am putting in my system for food consumption has more than likely come from an animal suffering. Additionally, factory farms are not good for the environment at all and are counted as higher polluters even than automobiles.

Education

I've attended public school (kindergarten through high school) for all of my early life. I graduated with a high school diploma in 1990 and soon after went on to attend higher education at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale (with a focus on advertising design; though I came to the conclusion, later on, that my real endeavors lied with graphic design). I lasted one semester and dropped out for personal reasons totally unrelated to the Institute and more to do with involvement with drugs and the issues that go along with that. Several years afterward, upon relocating back to Michigan, I had taken some courses at the local community college but in the end nothing much came of that but to add to my accreditation.

I'd like to add that, as a young child, I used to read encyclopedias and dictionaries for fun. And that reading such reference material has given me a general and broad understanding of topics and factoids that remain with me today. Therefore I classify myself as a “jack of all trades” when it comes to knowledge-based information and in no way do I count myself in having knowledge in any form of specialization. Just that I know a little bit about everything.
